                   Coach Karver started playing high school basketball at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School. As

                   the starting shooting guard, he led the team to it's last state championship in 1984. He is a

                   former Washington Post basketball All-Met athlete and an honorable mention All-American. 

                  Coach Mark Karver played Division I college basketball and earned a full athletic scholarship to the University of Maryland where he played on the team from 1986-1988. He then transferred to George Washington University, where he played on the men’s basketball team from 1988-1990 and helped them reach the National Invitational Tournament. Coach Karver then played professional basketball in the European League for teams in Israel and France over the span of 11 seasons. 

After coach Karver returned to the United States in 2003, he began his teaching and coaching career. Coach Karver began teaching Kindergarten at the Jewish Community Center and went on to teach first grade at Sligo Creek Elementary. While teaching, Coach Karver coached the JV boys basketball team at Bethesda Chevy Chase High School for five seasons and then became the varsity basketball coach at Walter Johnson in 2012. In 2013, coach Karver invited coach Rieder to be his assistant coach. Coach Karver currently teaches 4th grade at North Chevy Chase High School and coaches local AAU teams.
