MEET THE COACH

Coach Rieder has loved the game of basketball since before he could even remember. At the early age of 7, Coach Rieder officially started his basketball career. He attended Stu Vetter's basketball camp at Montrose Christian School where he was coached by NBA players, Kevin Durant and Greivis Vasquez until the age of 15. His playing career started at Tilden Middle School and progressed to Walter Johnson High School, where he played on the varsity team.

His coaching career began soon after graduating from Walter Johnson. Coach Rieder became a basketball player development coach for local elementary, middle, and high school players in Montgomery County. He then became the youngest assistant varsity basketball coach in the county, coaching at his high school alma mater.

After graduating from Towson University with a degree in communications, Coach Rieder became a long-term substitute teacher for Montgomery County Public Schools and then became a paraeducator at Walter Johnson High School.

Along with being a paraeducator at Walter Johnson High School, Coach Rieder is the head junior varsity basketball coach to the WJ boys basketball team and assistant coach for the varsity team. In his first season as the junior varsity head coach, Coach Rieder had a record of 11-5.

Currently, Coach Rieder is a special education teacher at North Bethesda Middle School. Coach Rieder coaches the varsity boys' basketball team at Northwest High School. In his first season as head coach, Coach Rieder finished with a record of 17-6, while winning the 4A West Division and the schools first 4A Regional Championship.

While Coach Rieder is not teaching or coaching basketball, he works for the Washington Wizards and Washington Mystics as a team attendant. He has been with the organization for the past 15 seasons.
